Seann eaglais ann an Leòdhas a choisigreadh às ùr

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Angela Nic’Illeathain - Preseantair] Chaidh seann eaglais anns An Rubha ann an Leòdhas, a tha a' dol air ais gu linn Chaluim Chille, a choisigreadh às ùr Disathairne. Tha eachdraidh mhòr co-cheangailte ri Eaglais na h-Aoidhe ann an Aiginis, rinnear tòrr obrach airson na ballachan a neartachadh ach tha a’ mhuir air falbh le dàrna leth dhen chladh a bha ga cuairteachadh agus tha balla-dìon a chaidh a thogail ann an staid chugallach. Seo Alasdair Mac’Illeathain.

[Alasdair R Macilleathain– Neach-aithris] Chosg urras Eaglais na-Aoidhe trì cheud mìle not a’ càradh ballachan na h-eaglaise, as dèidh dha na bliadhnaichean ‘s an droch shìde milleadh mòr a dhèanamh. Tha an t-urras a’ coimhead na h-eaglaise mar phàirt chudromach de eachdraidh a’ chreideamh Chriostail agus eachdraidh na Gàidhealtachd gu lèir.

[Cailean Scott MacChoinnich] There are something like nineteen chiefs of the Sìol Thorcuill, Lewis MacLeods buried here, at least one Earl of Seaforth buried here, a whole lot of important people over the last millennium have been buried here.

[Alasdair R Macilleathain – Neach-aithris] Ach ghabhadh an tuilleadh obair a dhèanamh.

[Cailean Scott MacChoinnich] Maybe we might be able to re-roof it. I think it would be great to have weddings or baptisms or what have you at this ancient site.

[Alasdair R Macilleathain – Neach-aithris] Tha iad a’ dèanamh dheth gun do dh’fhalbh am muir le dàrna leth a’ chlaidh timcheall an togalaich agus chan eil am muir na thàmh.

[Dòmhnall Crichton] Chaidh obair a dhèanamh air bho chionn bliadhnaichean air ais airson dìon ach tha a-rithist am muir a’ tighinn a-steach ‘s a’ toirt air falbh an taic bhon bhalla. Feumaidh iad coimhead ris na nithean sin cuideachd airson dèanamh cinnteach g’ eil an rathad air a dhìon agus gu bheil an togalach air a dhìon.

[Alasdair R Macilleathain – Neach-aithris] Ach le Disathairne airson an eaglais ath choisrigeadh agus foillseachadh leabhran fiosrachaidh air sgìre an Rubha, chaidh seirbheis a chumail san eaglais a’ chiad uair bho chionn iomadach bliadhna agus a’ chiad uair air an robh cuimhne aig duine a bha an làthair.

[An t-Urr Iain D Caimbeul] Bhiodh e math nam biodh adhradh ga chumail anns an togalach. Chan eil mullach air an togalach fhathast ach bha deagh sheirbheis againn an-diugh taobh a-staigh ballachan an togalaich agus tha sinn a’ coinneachadh far an robh adhradh ga dhèanamh do Dhia airson iomadh bliadhna agus a-nise tha sinn a’ fosgladh caibideil ùr agus tha mi an dòchas gum faic sinn seirbheisean eile gabhail àite an seo cuideachd.

[Alasdair R Macilleathain – Neach-aithris] Làrach bu chòir a bhith na tharraing mhòr ach làrach a tha cur feum air tòrr obair fhathast. Alasdair Mac’Illeathain, BBC An Là, air an Uidh ann an Leòdhas.

An old church in Lewis is re-dedicated

English Beurla

[Angela Maclean - Presenter] An ancient church in Point on the Isle of Lewis, which dates back to the time of St Columba, was re-dedicated on Saturday. A lot of work has been done to the walls of the church in Aiginis, which is steeped in history, but the sea has eroded half of the surrounding graveyard and the wall which was built to protect it is unstable. Here’s Alasdair Maclean.

[Alasdair Maclean – Reporter] The Ui Church Trust spent £300,000 repairing the church walls after years of erosion due to bad weather had taken its toll. The trust regards the church as an important part of Christian history, faith and Highland history.

[Colin Scott MacKenzie] There are something like nineteen chiefs of the Siol Thoircuill, Lewis MacLeods buried here, at least one Earl of Seaforth buried here, a whole lot of important people over the last millennium have been buried here.

[Alasdair Maclean – Reporter] But more work could be done.

[Colin Scott MacKenzie] Maybe we might be able to re-roof it. I think it would be great to have weddings or baptisms or what have you at this ancient site.

[Alasdair Maclean – Reporter] It would seem that the sea has eroded half of the surrounding graveyard but it is not at rest.

[Donald Crichton] Work was done to protect it years ago but again the sea comes in and takes away the support from the wall. They need to look at these issues too to make sure the road and the building is protected.

[Alasdair Maclean – Reporter] But with the re-dedication on Saturday and an information booklet being published on the district of Point, a service was held in the church for the first time for many years and indeed the first time many who were in attendance can remember.

[Rev Iain D Campbell] It would be good to be able to worship in the church. There is no roof on the building yet but we had a good service today within the church walls and we meet where worship for God was held for many years and we now open a new chapter and I hope we see other services taking place here too.

[Alasdair Maclean – Reporter] A site which should be a big attraction but one that needs a lot of further work done to it. Alasdair Maclean, BBC An Là, at Uidh on the Isle of Lewis.
