Seusan Turasachd math dhan Eilean Sgitheanach

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Tha a h-uile coltas ann gur i seo seusan turasachd cho trang ‘s a bh’ aca riamh anns an Eilean Sgitheanach. Ged a bhios greis ann fhathast mus tig àireamhan oifigeil a-mach, tha gnìomhachasan mar làraichean campachaidh ag ràdh g’ eil na h-àireamhan acasan suas eadar an treas agus an dàrna cuid air àireamhan na bliadhna an-uiridh. Tha an aithris seo aig Eilidh NicLeòid.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] ‘S e an ceathramh eilean as fheàrr san t-saoghal a rèir na h-iris National Geographic agus le cliù mar sin, tha an t-Eilean Sgitheanach a’ tàladh nam mìltean mòra de luchd-turais a h-uile bliadhna. ‘S e Monadh Àrd an Stòir agus Bodach an Stòir ri thaobh làrach cho tarraingeach ‘s a tha san sgìre, a’ tàladh co-dhiù trì fichead agus a còig mìle duine gach bliadhna.

[Fireannach 1] Yeah it’s very beautiful place.

[Boireannach 1] I think that people are more generous and kind than in Paris.

[Fireannach 2] The connection from mountains and sea I love all over the world and in Skye it’s special.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Ged a tha còmhdhail car annasach aig cuid tha mòran a bharrachd a’ tighinn dhan Eilean air soithichean mòra spaideil. ‘S e fear dhe na h-àitichean dhan tèid iad – taigh-tasgaidh an eilein – a dh’fhosgail a dhorsan bho chionn faisg air leth-cheud bliadhna. B’ e an-uiridh a’ bhliadhna bu thrainge a bh’ aca riamh.

[Eòin Dòmhnallach] Am-bliadhna b’ e toiseach tòiseachaidh gu math slaodach a bh’ ann. Bha an aimsir as t-Earrach agus tràth as t-samhradh gu math fuar agus cha robh uimhir a dhaoine a’ tighinn mun cuairt.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Bho ghnìomhachas stèidhichte gu fear a tha dìreach anns an dàrna bliadhna. Mhothaich iad barrachd charbadan air an rathad am-bliadhna, ach cha bhi a h-uile duine a stad son grèim bidhe.

[Iseabail Strachan] Tha cùisean trang aon agus sàmhach eile so tha e suas agus sìos agus tha e doirbh a bhith cinnteach, fhios agad leis gu bheil na h-àireamhan eadar-dhealaichte gach agus tha an seusan cuideachd gu math goirid agus bidh e seachad mus bi fios againn mu dheidhinn.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Tha mòran eile anns a’ ghnìomhachas a’ soirbheachadh ge-tà. Tha a dhà uimhir a bhanaichean mòra ann an cuid a làraichean campachaidh, ao-coltach ri seusanan eile tha na goireasan seo ann an Uig air a bhith air leth trang fad an t-samhraidh.

[Màrtainn Madigan] This year alone we’ve seen an increase of at least 30% of everyone from the tents to the campervans and we get a lull probably sometime in June just after the break of the May bank holiday but this year we’ve had no lull whatsoever throughout May, June, July and August.

[Eilidh NicLeòid – Neach-aithris] Chan fhaighear figearan oifigeil Visit Scotland dhan Eilean a-mhàin, ach tha mòran ag aithris gu bheil na h-àireamhan aca suas am-bliadhna, le cuid ag ràdh gur i a’ bhliadhna bu thrainge a bh’ aca riamh. Eilidh NicLeòid, BBC An Là, An t-Eilean Sgitheanach.

A good tourist season for the Isle of Skye

English Beurla

[Innes Munro – Presenter] It’ s very likely that this is the busiest tourist season they’ve ever had on the Isle of Skye. Although there is a while yet until the official figures are released, businesses such as camping grounds are saying their numbers are up between 33-50%. This report comes from Eilidh MacLeod.

[Eilidh Macleod – Reporter] It’s the 4th best island in the world according to the National Geographic magazine and with a reputation like that, Skye attracts thousands of tourists each year. The Storr and The Old Man Of Storr beside it are sights as appealing as you can get in the area, attracting at least 65,000 people each year.

[Gentleman 1] ] Yeah it’s very beautiful place.

[Lady 2] I think that people are more generous and kind than in Paris.

[Gentleman 2] The connection from mountains and sea I love all over the world and in Skye it’s special.

[Eilidh Macleod – Reporter] Although some have strange methods of transport more and more come to the island in big fancy vehicles. One of the places they go is the island’s museum which opened its doors almost 50 years ago. Last year was their busiest yet.

[Jonathan MacDonald] It was a very slow start to the year. The weather in spring and early summer was very cold and there weren’t so many people around.

[Eilidh Macleod – Reporter] From an established business to one that’ s only in its second year. They noticed more cars on the road this year but not everyone stops for a bite to eat.

[Ishbel Strachan] Things are busy one day and quiet the next so it’s up and down and it’s difficult to be sure with numbers varying each day. Also the season is very short and it’s over before we know it.

[Eilidh Macleod – Reporter] There are plenty other businesses thriving though. There are twice as many camper vans in many of the camping grounds, unlike other seasons these facilities in Uig have been extra busy this summer.

[Martin Madigan] This year alone we’ve seen an increase of at least 30% of everyone from the tents to the campervans and we get a lull probably sometime in June just after the break of the May bank holiday but this year we’ve had no lull whatsoever throughout May, June, July and August.

[Eilidh Macleod – Reporter] Visit Scotland figures are not available for Skye alone, but many report that their numbers are up this year, with most saying it has been their busiest year yet. Eilidh Macleod, BBC An Là, the Isle of Skye.
