Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Mairi Rodgers – Preseantair] Nis, bhiodh sibh deònach pàigheadh airson tractair beag Ferguson Brown bho 1936? Uill, thèid an dearbh thractair a reic aig railidh ann an Deimhidh aig deireadh na mìos. Tha Uilleam MacMhathain, leis a bheil e, ga thoirt seachad airson airgead a thogail dhan charthannas Cancer Research UK. Fhuair e fhèin dearbhadh o chionn ghoirid gu bheil an tinneas aire-san cuideachd. Choinnich an tè-naidheachd againn Eilean Green ris agus ris an tractair.

[Eilean Green – Neach-aithris] Tha an tractair beag Ferguson Brown agus crann dha, gan reic còmhla aig railidh ann an Deimhidh air an 27mh dhen mhìos seo, gus airgead a thogail airson nam buidhnean rannsachaidh aillse Cancer Research UK.

[Eilean Green – Neach-aithris] Tha Uilleam MacMhathain 90 bliadhna a dh’aois agus seo an dàrna tractair a thathar a’ reic airson carthannas. Chaidh a’ chiad fhear a reic, dhà no trì bliadhnaichean air ais, son airgead a thogail son an Highland Hospice agus fhuair e seachd mìle gu leth not. Tha e an dòchas fada a bharrachd fhaighinn airson an fhir seo.

[Uilleam MacMhathain] Well I inherited it from my brother about five years ago. It was in a bit of a state when I got it, flat tyres, aye cost a bit in repairs but, a lot of my friends, relatives and friends died of cancer so I thought that would be a good thing to do for Cancer Research. I would think it would make at least 12,000. Probably a bit more.

[Eilean Green – Neach-aithris] Tha Uilleam air a bhith ag obair cruaidh air a’ chroit fad a bheatha ’s tha na caraidean aige den bheachd gu bheil e gu math iomchaidh gun tog an tractair beag sònraichte seo tòrr mòr airgid airson carthannas air an do chuir iad uile eòlas.

[Ailean Caimbeul] Tha mi smaoineachadh gur e còig cheud a chaidh a dhèanamh uile gu lèir, agus tha e seo ga àireamh cheud agus rudeigin. Mar sin tha e toirt beachd do dhaoine cho sean ‘s a tha e agus cuideachd cho annasach ‘s a tha e agus ri linn sin cho luachmhor ‘s a tha e agus ged nach eil gnothaich aige ris ann an dòigh tha mi cinnteach, mi fhìn agus Iain air ar cuid dòrainn fhèin fhaotainn ri aillse agus mar sin mar as motha a thogas e airson rannsachadh aillse ‘s ann as fheàrr leinne.

[Iain MacLeòid] Tha sin ceart aidh agus cuideachd a’ cuimhneachadh gu bheil Uilleam fhèin 90 bliadhna an t-seachdain a chaidh agus tha e dìreach mìorbhaileach.

[Ailean Caimbeul] aig a tha fios, mar a bha thu a ràdha na bu thràithe, tha muinntir an airgid mhòir uile a’ coimhead air BBC ALBA agus tha sinn an dòchas gum bi cuideigin ann le sporan mòr a thig a cheannach an tractair tha seo. Bhiodh e glè mhath dìreach aig ceann taighe duine sam bith.

A tractor is sold to raise money for charity

English Beurla

[Mairi Rodgers – Presenter] What would you be willing to pay for a little Ferguson Brown tractor from 1936? Well, that exact tractor will be sold at a rally in Daviot at the end of the month. Willie Matheson , who owns the tractor, is auctioning it to raise money for the charity Cancer Research UK. He recently found out that he has cancer himself. Our reporter Eilean Green met him and his tractor.

[Eilean Green – Reporter] The little Ferguson Brown tractor and it’s plough will be sold together at a rally in Daviot on the 27th of this month, to raise money for the research group Cancer Research UK.

[Eilean Green – Reporter] Willie Matherson is 90 years old and this is the second tractor he has sold for charity. The first one was sold two or three years ago to raise money for the Highland Hospice and it went for £7500. He hopes to get a lot more for this one.

[Willie Matheson] Well I inherited it from my brother about five years ago. It was in a bit of a state when I got it , flat tyres, cost a bit in repairs but, a lot of my friends, relatives and friends died of cancer so I thought that would be a good thing to do for Cancer Research. I would think it would make at least 12,000. Probably a bit more.

[Eilean Green – Reporter] Willie has worked hard on the croft all his life and his friends think it’s rather appropriate that this special little tractor will raise a lot of money for a charity they all know well.

[Allan Campbell] I think it was five hundred that were made all together, something like that, and this is number two hundred and something. Therefore it gives people an idea how old and rare it is and consequently how valuable it is and although it doesn’t have any bearing in a sense, myself and Iain have suffered hardships as a result of cancer and therefore the more it raises for cancer research, the happier we are.

[John Macleod] That’s correct and also remember that Willie himself turned 90 last week and he is just marvellous.

[Allan Campbell] Who knows, like you were saying earlier, all the wealthy people watch BBC ALBA and we hope someone with a big wallet is watching that will come and buy this tractor. It would be good at the end of anyone’s house.

[Eilean Green – Reporter] Eilean Green, BBC An Là, Balblair.
