Draghan mu Chùl Lodair

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Tha Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus buidhnean coimhearsnachd ann an Cùl Lodair iomagaineach mu mar a dh’fhaodadh a bhith an dàn do dh'àrainn a' bhlàir ann an sin agus companaidh air cead fhaighinn bho Riaghaltas na h-Alba sia taighean deug a thogail timcheall oirre. Chuir a' Chomhairle an aghaidh nam planaichean, ach rinn a' chompanaidh tagradh chun Riaghaltais. Seo Coinneach Mac a' Ghobhainn.

[Coinneach Mac a’ Ghobhainn – Neach-aithris] Sa bhliadhna seachd ceud deug fhichead ‘s a còig, b’ e àite gu math eadar-dhealaichte a bh’ ann an Cùl Lodair. B’ ann an seo a bha am blàr ainmeil eadar am Prionnsa Teàrlach agus Diùc Chumberland. Ach, ‘s e còmhstri gu math eadar-dhealaichte a tha a-nise a’ dol ‘s an Riaghaltas air cead a thoirt dhan chompanaidh Inverness Estates, taighean a thogail faisg air làimh.

[Coinneach Mac a’ Ghobhainn – Neach-aithris] ‘S ann air mo chùlaibh ann an seo a tha an companaidh an dùil sia thaighean deug a thogail agus mu leth mhìle sìos an rathad, tha blàr Chùil Lodair fhèin – làrach a’ bhlàir. Nise, tha seo air teagamhan a thogail am measg cuid de bhuidhnean poblach ach tha teagamhan eile aig cuid anns an sgìre cuideachd.

[Dòmhnall Mac a’ Mhaoilein] ‘S e àite freagarrach airson taighean, àite snog a th’ ann. Bidh seallaidhean snoga bho na taighean. An aon rud a chanainn-sa, chan eil e cho faisg ‘s a bha feadhainn ag ràdh do làrach bhlàr Chuil Lodair, ach chan eil na ròidean freagarrach airson na tha sin de thaighean a thogail.

[Coinneach Mac a’ Ghobhainn – Neach-aithris] Chan eil ach togalaichean taca air an làraich an-dràsta, ach chan e cion ròidean, ach a’ bhuaidh a bhios aig an leasachadh seo air àrainn a’ bhlàir san àm ri teachd a th’ air aire cuid eile. Nam measg Urras Nàiseanta na h-Alba aig a bheil làrach Blàr Chùil Lodair.

[Alexander Bennett] If this development goes ahead, then there’ll be others waiting to develop alongside it. And before we know it, it’ll end up with a Central Park in New York type development scenario, where you have the battlefield untouched and then development all round and that is our worst case scenario and we just see this as one of the whole steps in the process, so we are obliged in the national interests to object to it.

[Coinneach Mac a’ Ghobhainn – Neach-aithris] Ged a tha Riaghaltas na h-Alba air cead a thoirt dhan ath-thagradh aig a’ chompanaidh Inverness Estates, tha an Riaghaltas cuideachd ag ràdh gum feumar aonta a ruighinn an toiseach eadar iad fhèin agus a’ chompanaidh a thaobh taic airgid airson staran, slighean-baidhsagail agus taighean aig prìsean ciallach. Coinneach Mac a’ Ghobhainn, BBC An Là, Cùil Lodair.

Concerns about Culloden

English Beurla

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] Highland Council and community groups in Culloden are worried about the fate of battleground, as a company has got permission from the Scottish Government to build sixteen houses around it. The Council rejected the plans, but the company appealed to the Government. Here’s Coinneach Smith.

[Coinneach Smith – Reporter] In the year 1745, Culloden was a very different place. This is where the famous battle between Prince Charles and Duke Cumberland took place. But, it’s a different conflict that is happening just now and the Government have given permission to the company Inverness Estates, to build houses nearby.

[Coinneach Smith – Reporter] It is behind me that the company plans to build sixteen houses and about half a mile down the road is the battlefield itself. Now, this has raised questions amongst public groups but there are other worries in the area itself.

[Donald MacMillan] It’s a good area for houses, a pretty place. There’ll be nice views from the houses. One thing I would say, it is not as close as people were saying to Culloden Battlefield. But the roads are not fitting for what they are planning to build.

[Coinneach Smith – Reporter] There is nothing but tack houses on the site just now, there are no main roads, but the effect that this development will have on the land in the future is on others’ minds. Amongst the, the National Trust of Scotland who owns the Battle of Culloden.

[Coinneach Smith – Reporter] Although the Scottish Government has given permission to the appeal of the company Inverness Estates, the Government also says that there must be agreement first between them and the company in relation to financial aid for tracks, cycle-paths and affordable housing.
