150 bliadhna de Chala Steòrnabhaigh

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Innes Rothach – Preseantair] Tha Ùghdarras Caladh Steòrnabhaigh a' comharrachadh g’ eil 150 bliadhna ann bhon thòisich am port ag obrachadh gu ìre mhòr anns a’ chruth anns a bheil e an-diugh. Mar phàirt de na bhios a’ dol air adhart, thèid leabhar sònraichte de bhàrdachd, sgrìobhaidhean agus dealbhan fhoillseachadh leis an ùghdarras an-ath-oidhche. Tha tuilleadh aig Aonghas Dòmhnallach.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Tha 150 bliadhna bho rinn uachdaran Leòdhais, Seumas MacMhathain, leasachadh air port Steòrnabhaigh, ga thoirt an ìre mhath gun chumadh a th’ air an-diugh. Tha leabhar, SY Story, le sgrìobhadh, bàrdachd 's deilbh a’ tòiseachadh a’ bhliadhna comharrachaidh a tha seo.

[Dòmhnall S. Moireach] Dìreach tha rudan iongantach ann. ‘S ann ann an 1948 a thàinig bàta làn Estonians a-steach dhan bhaile ‘s bha iadsan a’ ruith air falbh bho na Ruiseanaich an uair sin agus àm eile ‘s e 1952 nuair a bha Operation Cauldron a’ dol faisg air Tolastadh. S’ ann a bha iadsan ag obair an uair sin air bubonic plague, pneumonic plague agus bha iad a’ dèanamh tòrr air a’ Bhen Lomond.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Ach tha nithean eile gu bhith dol as a’ phort tron bhliadhna.

[An Capt Bert Frater] Bidh diofar rudan againn ga dhèanamh. Chan eil mi dol a dh’innse dhut a h-uile càil a tha sinn dol a dhèanamh ach tha aontachd mòr ann faisg air deireadh na bliadhna, deireadh September. Tha co-labhairt bhliadhnail aig Port Dhùn Bhreatainn gu bhith ann an Steòrnabhagh ‘s bidh timcheall air 200 delegate ann an sin ‘s tha mi creids gum bi feadhainn a bhuineas dhaibh a’ tighinn còmhla riutha cuideachd.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Bha Dòmhnall S. Moireach ag obrachadh ann an co-bhuinn leis an dealbhadair Dùghlas Robastan.

[Dòmhnall S. Moireach] Bidh e toirt orm smaoineachadh mu dheidhinn dòighean airson dealbhan a dhèanamh cuideachd, fios agad sgeulachd Operation Cauldron rinn esan dealbhan a tha mi smaoineachadh tha dìreach mìorbhaileach.

[Aonghas Dòmhnallach – Neach-aithris] Thèid an leabhar fhoillseachadh aig Ionad Woodlands ann an Steòrnabhagh an-ath-oidhche aig seachd uairean. Aonghas Dòmhnallach, BBC An ann an Steòrnabhagh

150 years of the Stornoway Harbour

English Beurla

[Innes Munro – Presenter] The Stornoway Pier Authority are commemorating 150 years since the port started operating the way it does today. As part of what will be taking place, a special book of poetry, prose and pictures will be published by the Authority tomorrow night. Angus MacDonald has more.

[Angus Macdonald – Reporter] There’s been 150 since the Lewis landlord, James MacKenzie, developed Stornoway’s port pretty much to how it is today. The book, SY Story, with writing, poetry and pictures launches this commemorative year.

[Donald S. Murray] There’s just lots of interesting things in it. It was in 1948 that a boat full of Estonians came into town and they were at that time fleeing from the Russians and another time in 1852 Operation Cauldron was happening near Tolsta. They were working then on the bubonic plague, pneumonic plague and they were doing lots on Ben Lomond.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] But other things will be taking place in the port throughout the year.

[Capt Bert Frater] We will have different things to do. I won’t tell you all we have happening but there’s a big event at the end of the year, at the end of September. Port Dunbartonshire will hold their annual conference in Stornoway and there will be around 200 delegates there and I’m sure that there will be plenty members coming along too.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] Donald S. Murray was working in partnership with the illustrator Douglas Robertson.

[Donald S. Murray] He makes me think about ways to include pictures too, you know in the story of Operation Cauldron he did pictures that I think are just marvellous.

[Angus MacDonald – Reporter] The book will be launched at the Woodlands Centre in Stornoway tomorrow night at 7 o’ clock.
