Iolairean mara ann am Muile

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] ‘S e eòin shònraichte a th’ anns na h-iolairean mara agus mheatair gu leth eadar ceann nan sgiathan aca. An-diugh tha feadhainn dhiubh air tighinn beò a-rithist ann am Muile.

[Emily Edwards – Dualchas Nàdair na h-Alba] Uill, chaidh iolairean mara à bith ann an Alba ann an naoi ceud deug agus a h-ochd-deug agus bha sin air sgàth ‘s geur-leanmhainn le daoine agus air sgàth ‘s gun do chaill iad cuid de na h-àrainnean aca le daoine a bhith a’ leagail chraobhan agus a’ drèanadh na talmhainn. Ach anns na seachdadan chaidh prògram ùr a chur air dòigh gus iolairean mara a thoirt air ais a dh’Alba agus ann am Muile, chaidh na ciad iseanan a leigeil ma sgaoil anns na h-ochdadan. Bhon uair sin, tha iad beag air bheag air a bhith soirbheachadh ann am Muile.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Chaidh buidheann a stèidheachadh a bhios a’ toirt luchd-turais gus coimhead air na h-iolairean ann am Muile. Thathar a’ tomhais gu bheil iad a’ cur còig millean not ri eaconamaidh na sgìre gach bliadhna.

[Debby Thorn – Mull Eagle Watch] They get to actually see, at close quarters, a white-tailed eagle family - the adults bringing up a pair of chicks, right through to fledgling. And it’s not just the white-tailed eagles, they’re seeing other wildlife as well. We can show them golden eagles, hen harriers, and mammals that are around. It’s that whole experience.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Gu mì-fhortanach, chan eil e coltach gu bheil na h-iolairean mun cuairt an-diugh, ach a rèir na buidhne a bhios a’ cur nan tursan seo air dòigh, ‘s iad an aon àite air an t-saoghal far am faodar coimhead air iolairean dhen t-seòrsa gu poblach agus a-niste, ‘s iad an dàrna àite a fhuair duais còig rionnagan bho VisitScotland airson tursan a tha a’ coimhead air fiadh-bheatha ann an Alba. Tha gearanan air a bhith aig cuid de thuathanaich mu na h-eòin ach, a rèir choltais, fhuair a’ choimhearsnachd suas ri deich mìle not bhon bhuidhinn seo sa bhliadhna.

[Deedra Chase – Còisir Ghàidhlig an Eilein Mhuilich] Fhuair an còisir airgead bhuapa airson taic a chur thugainn a dhol sìos chun a’ Mhòid agus rudan mar seo. Tha sin uabhasach math agus faodaidh buidheann sam bith sa choimhearsnachd cuir a-steach airson taic le pròiseact is rud sam bith a tha iad ag iarraidh.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Ged nach eil na h-iolairean an-còmhnaidh aig an taigh, bidh cuideigin eile mun cuairt gus fàilte a chur air an luchd-turais. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Muile.

Sea-Eagles in Mull

English Beurla

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] White-tailed eagles are remarkable birds which have a wingspan of two and a half metres. These have now been re-introduced on Mull.

[Emily Edwards – Scottish Natural Heritage] White-tailed eagles went out of existence in Scotland in nineteen eighteen. This was due to human persecution and the fact that their habitats were destroyed by people knocking down trees and draining the ground. However, in the seventies a new initiative was started to re-introduce white-tailed eagles in Scotland and on Mull, the first birds were released in the eighties. Since then, they have gradually prospered on Mull.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] A group was formed to let tourists watch the Eagles in Mull. It is estimated that they contribute five million pounds to the local economy each year.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] Unfortunately, the eagles are nowhere to be seen today, but according to the group that organises these trips, theirs is the only public eagle watch worldwide, and it is now only the second group in Scotland to have been awarded a five star award by VisitScotland for organised nature trips. Some farmers have complained about the birds, however, apparently the group has contributed up to ten thousand pounds to community groups in the past year.

[Deedra Chase – Mull Gaelic Choir] The choir got money from them to assist us with our trip to the Mod and things like that. It’s wonderful that this is available and any group within the community is entitled to apply for funding for a project or anything they require.

[Andreas Wolff – Reporter] Although the eagles aren’t always to be seen, there will always be somebody around to welcome visitors. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Mull.
