Oidhirp airson airgead a thogail airson Eaglais Naoimh Chonain

Gaelic Gàidhlig

[Iain MacIlleathain - Preseantair] Nise, thòisich oidhirp air airgead a thogail airson na h-eaglaise ann am baile Loch Obha, an Earra-Ghàidheal, a ghleidheadh. Ged nach eil ceud bliadhna ann bho chaidh a togail, tha i an-diugh ann an droch staid. Air an deireadh sheachdain, bha taisbeanadh aca 's iad a' feuchainn ri airgead a thogail airson na h-obrach. Chaidh am fear-naidheachd againne, Andreas Wolff ann.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha eaglais mhòr suidhichte ann am baile beag, Loch Obha. Thogar an Eaglais Naoimh Chonain le Walter Caimbeul, am bràthair a b’ òige don chiad Mhorair Blythswood. Cheannaich e Innis Chonain ann an Loch Obha agus chaidh e a dh’fhuireach an sin le a mhàthair.

[Am Brigadier Iain MacPhàrlain] Bhiodh iad a' dol don eaglais ann an Clachan an Dìseirt, no Dail Mhàilidh mar a th' aca air a-nis, a h-uile Didòmhnaich. Tha e coltach gun robh iad a' dol, a dh’aona cuid air an rathad, 's cha robh an rathad ro mhath. Cha robh seo a' còrdadh ris a' chaillich idir, agus thuirt a mac rithe "ma-tà, chan eil e a' còrdadh riut. Togaidh mise eaglais air do shon."

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha Eaglais Naoimh Chonain ann an droch staid agus i feumach air càradh. Thathar a’ tomhais gu bheil i feumach air còrr is millean not. Ged a tha iad an dùil gu bheil iad a’ faotainn maoineachadh, tha iad cuideachd airson ‘s gun cuir daoine taic riutha.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Chunnaic na bha an làthair air an deireadh-sheachdain taisbeanadh mu eachdraidh na h-Eaglaise air an deach crìoch a chur ann an naoi ceud deug agus trìthead. Thathar airson buidheann de charaidean a stèidheachadh air a son.

[David Hodge] Anybody can provide help in the form of labour, time, money or just information, historical, archiving. It becomes easier to keep going if you know people are genuinely interested.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha an togalach làn de dh’eachdraidh na sgìre agus chan eil e a’ buintinn do dh’Eaglais sam bith.

[Am Brigadier Iain MacPhàrlain] Ann an dòigh, tha e nas fheàrr dh’fhaodadh nach eil iad ceangailte ri Eaglais sam bith. Tha saorsa aca, a dhèanamh an seo nas urrainn dhaibh, tha fhios agad, agus tha fhios agam fhèin, tha am fuaimneachadh a-staigh an seo cho math agus ‘s e àite math a bhiodh ann ‘son ceòl a bhiodh ann.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha ìomhaigh de Raibeart am Bruiseach ri fhaicinn san eaglais cuideachd agus cnàimh dheth air a thiodhlacadh an sin. Thathar an dòchas gum biodh sin na chuideachadh le bhith a’ trusadh airgead.

[David Hodge] The first grants application we expect to hear from them in the middle of December. If it was successful, we would hope to start the work in the spring, because it is exterior work, therefore requiring the weather, and once that’s started we would be able to put together the next applications so that the next stage, if successful, could start immediately after.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Tha planaichean aca cuideachd gus ionad fiosrachaidh agus cafaidh a thogail ann an togalach ri taobh na h-Eaglaise. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Loch Obha.

Campaign to raise money for St Conan's Church

English Beurla

[Iain MacLean - Presenter] Now, a campaign has begun to raise money to save a church in the town of Loch Awe, Argyll. Although not 100 years old have passed since it was built, it is in a bad state. At the weekend, there was an event to try and raise money for the work. Our reporter, Andreas Wolff went.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] There is a big church in a small town, Loch Awe. St Conan’s Kirk was built by Walter Campbell, the younger brother of the first Lord Blythswood. He bought Innischonan in Loch Awe and he went to stay there with his mother.

[Brigadier Iain MacFarlane] They would go to church in Dalmally, or Dalmally as they call it today, every Sunday. It would appear that they would go with the masses on the road, but the road was not too good. This did not agree with the old lady, and her son said to her “Well, if you don’t like it, I’ll build you another church.”

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] St Conan’s Kirk is in a bad state and she needs fixed. They estimate that she will need more than a million pounds. Although they expect that they will receive funding, they also want people to help them.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] Those who attended the event saw the history of the Kirk that was finished in 1930. They want to set up a group of friends for the church.

[David Hodge] Anybody can provide help in the form of labour, time, money or just information, historical, archiving. It becomes easier to keep going if you know people are genuinely interested.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] The building was full of history of the area and it is not affiliated to any one church.

[Am Brigadier Iain MacPhàrlain] In a way, it is nicer that it is not linked to any religion. They have a freedom, they can do what they want, you know and I know myself, the acoustics in here are so good, it would be a good place for music.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] There is a statue of Robert the Bruce in the church and a bone of his has been buried there. There is hope that this will be a help in raising money.

[David Hodge] The first grants application we expect to hear from them in the middle of December. If it was successful, we would hope to start the work in the spring; because it is exterior work, therefore requiring the weather, and once that’s started we would be able to put together the next applications so that the next stage, if successful, could start immediately after.

[Andreas Wolff – Neach-aithris] They also have plans for an information centre and to build a café beside the church. Andreas Wolff, BBC An Là, Loch Awe.
