Telling the time
Look out for the following pieces of vocabulary in this clip.
We have already seen that the word dà can affect the beginning of the following word, such as dà chofaidh, dà fhichead. A vowel is not followed by an h, so two o’ clock is just dà uair, but the phrase for twelve o’ clock is. It is affected as the beginning of deug is affected as dà uair dheug.
|Woman||Cuin a tha Take the High Road air?||When is Take the Righ Road on?|
O, leth-uair an dèidh sia.
Oh, half past six.
|Van driver||Dè an uair a tha e?||What time is it?|
|Passing worker||Cairteal gu trì.||Quarter to three.|
|Van driver||Cairteal gu trì? |
|Quarter to three? |
|Woman||Dè an uair a tha e?||What time is it?|
|Man||Cairteal gu ceithir.||Quarter to four.|
